Information
for Export/Import Firms DurEquip, Inc. is a reliable and honest source of used gasoline pumps and dispensers for export markets. We work exclusively through exporters and will not compete with you in selling to your customer. We have supplied equipment to exporters for shipment to destinations worldwide. Equipment Types Obviously, any equipment could be purchased for export. As a practical matter, however, the most popular equipment is older one- and two-hose units with mechanical price computation and display. Newer equipment with electronic computation is complex and difficult to service without trained technicians and extensive spare parts inventories. In contrast, mechanical equipment is relatively easy to service. Within the mechanical category, the most popular export units are self-contained pumps, sometimes referred to as "suction pumps" or "suckers," which include electric motors and pumping units. Pumps need only be connected to a source of power and a gasoline storage tank. The alternative, dispensers, are basically metering and control devices that require submersible pumps in the gasoline tanks. Generally, pumps are more expensive and less readily available than dispensers. Compatibility Virtually all gasoline equipment can be easily converted to measure in imperial gallons or liters. On mechanical units, this is accomplished by changing the gears between the metering unit and the (mechanical) price computer. On electronic models, it is done with an electrical switch, a jumper connection, or by software. DurEquip can supply conversion gears either installed or as a kit. Gasoline price displays are typically limited to four digits (usually up to 2.999) and total sale displays are limited to 4 digits. These are referred to as "four wheel" computers. Fortunately, these display ranges are acceptable for most currencies. If you require "five wheel" computers, we can provide them as new units only. U.S. equipment is wired for 60 Hz mains power, switchable between 100 and 220 volts. If your market has 50 Hz mains and/or another supply voltage, pumping motors must be replaced. We can make this change in the U.S, but we normally recommend that it be done in the destination country. Used 50 Hz motors are unavailable in the U.S., so new motors must be used. We can assist you in procuring motors and we can remove existing motors, if desired, to reduce shipping weight. Specifying Equipment The most common problem faced by exporters is assembling a container load or larger quantity of equipment within a reasonable time period. It is rare (despite the representations of some companies) for a gasoline equipment broker to have a large quantity of a single type of unit in stock. Thus, virtually all export orders are filled by the equipment broker searching for and buying the required equipment. This is a time-consuming process at best, and its difficulty depends on the type of equipment specified by the exporter and on the size, experience, and capabilities of the broker. A requirement for all identical units, particularly suction pumps, is the most difficult to satisfy. An exporter whose overseas customer will take a mixture of brands and types, especially if dispensers are acceptable, will find his needs met quickly and at the lowest prices. We will work with you to identify the equipment specification that best meets your market, price, and timing requirements. Our computerized data base of over 19,000 equipment buyers and sellers is unique in the industry and gives us a nationwide capability to find equipment that meets your needs. We may also be able to fill your order from our used equipment inventory, which is normally between 1,000 and 1,500 units. Terms and Conditions DurEquip normally requires a significant deposit with the order, and final payment in cash or by irrevocable letter of credit at time of delivery. At the time of order, we will negotiate a target time period for filling the order and a delivery schedule. Normally, we will ask you to take the equipment as we can provide it. Your willingness to accept partial shipments can result in substantial savings, since the equipment often comes from multiple locations around the U.S. and intermediate shipment to DurEquip increases freight costs. Used equipment is sold "as-is," guaranteed to be complete but without nozzles and hoses. Buyers normally plan to do some cleanup and refurbishing in the destination country. Parts, Support Equipment and Training DurEquip can provide used hoses, nozzles, and electronic control consoles if required. (Submersible pumps, however, are normally available only as new units.) We can also provide new, rebuilt, and used parts to support equipment refurbishing operations, including custom "kits" of the special seals, gaskets, and other parts that are normally replaced. Informal training in our facility is also available. Requirements Checklist 1. Do you need suction pumps or can dispensers be used? 2. Do you need single-hose or two hose units? If two-hose, do they dispense the same product or do you need a two product unit? (Two hose, two product pumps are more expensive than single-product units. One- and two-product dual dispensers are about the same price.) 3. Must the dial faces be lit or can unlighted units be used? (Unlighted units are more readily available and less expensive than lighted units. Lighted units may require electrical changes to work on local mains power.) 4. Does the "reset" have to be electrically-operated or are manually-reset units acceptable? (On a manual reset unit, the customer must first operate a knob or lever to set the price computer to zero, then operate another knob or lever to turn the pump on.) Manual reset units are less expensive than electrical units. Also, electric resets may require electrical changes to work on local mains power. 5. What voltage and frequency (for example, 220 volts, 50 Hz) is to be used? Do you want DurEquip to do the conversion, do you want us to assist in obtaining conversion components, or will you handle the conversion yourself? 6. What measurement unit (for example, liters) is to be used? Do you want DurEquip to do the conversion, do you want us to assist in obtaining conversion components or will you handle the conversion yourself? Do you need five-wheel price computers? 7. Do you have a requirement for specific manufacturers and model numbers? (Tokheim and Gilbarco are most readily available and hence the least expensive. Bennett equipment is scarce and more expensive.) Please be aware that model numbers can be a source of confusion because manufacturers often used different model numbers for a unit when it was sold outside the U.S. Model number identification is best done from photographs. 8. What quantities do you require? How soon after you place an order? 9. Do you need components or kits for refurbishing (gaskets, O-rings, rebuilt meters, etc.)? Do you need spare parts, either new or used? |
